Plants & facilities
Petrochemical Plant
In 1970, we built Aromatic Compound Plant 1, the first of its kind in Korea. Since then, we have established Naphtha Cracking Plant 1, Aromatic Compound Plant 2, Naphtha Cracking Plant 2, Para-xylene Plant 1 & 2, and Cyclohexane Plant.
Currently, we are producing 4.5 million tons of petrochemical products a year, meeting the domestic demand and creating Korea's image as a petrochemical powerhouse in the world.

Naphtha Cracking Plant
Naphtha Cracking Plant 1 & 2 are producing 840,000 tons of ethylene, 430,000 tons of propylene, butadiene, butane-1, etc.

Aromatic Compound Plant
Aromatic Compound Plant 1 & 2, Para-Xylene Plant 1 & 2, and Cyclohexane Plant are producing a total of 2.1 million tons of aromatic products a year, including 500,000 tons of benzene, 1.1 million tons of xylene, and 730,000 tons of para-xylene.

Solvent Plant
Three solvent plants are operating to produce 70 kinds, 140,000 tons of solvent products a year, using materials such as T-LSR, Raffinate, and T-Kero.

Synthetic Resin Plant
In 1990, we built Synthetic Resin Plant 1 and in 1996 Synthetic Resin Plant 2. Such plants are manufacturing 740,000 tons of various kinds of PE/PP products a year under the specialized system for LLDPE, HDPE, and PP products.

Crude Distillation Unit (CDU)
SK Ulsan Complex Refinery Plant supplies crude oil to each refinery plant through pipelines from the crude oil storage place. Then, the crude oil is refined to produce about 20 kinds of petroleum products, such as LPG, gasoline, airplane fuel, and asphalt.
In 1964 we started operating Refinery Plant 1, the first of its kind in Korea, and in 1996 Refinery Plant 5. Now our five refinery plants are producing 700,000 drums of petroleum products a day, meeting 40% of the domestic demand.

Heavy oil cracking plant
Heavy Oil Upgrading (HOU) Plant
This plant is manufacturing daily up to 114,000 barrels of naphtha, light sweet crude oil, low-sulfur B-C, lube base oil, and asphalt through vacuum distillation and hydrogenation of high-sulfur vacuum residue.
Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) Plant
The plant is producing daily up to 80,000 barrels of gasoline and light sweet crude oil B-C through hydrodesulfurization and residue fluid catalystic cracking using high-sulfur atmospheric residue.
Lubricant/grease Plant
We are producing daily up to 660 kinds, 6,000 barrels of products using three mixing teams and two mixing tanks, and up to 230 barrels of grease from ten kettles.

Buoy facilities
Crude oil carried by oil tankers from the Middle East, South America, and Africa is first unloaded at the buoy facilities and transmitted to the storage place through underwater pipelines.
(The length of the oil tanker is twice that of the 63 Building. It has the double wall structure to prevent oil from leaking into the sea.)

Crude oil storage tank
SK Ulsan Complex has 34 large-scale crude oil storage tanks, storing 16 million drums of oil. The largest tank is 22 meters in height and 86 meters in diameter.
(With such a tank, you can contain three Jangchung Gymnasiums in it and a football stadium on it.)

Gas storage facilities
Our facilities are the world's largest underground facilities. Currently 270,000 tons of propane and butane are stored 150 meters below the sea level.

Marine shipping facilities
The shipping facilities at SK Ulsan Complex have 8 docks and can handle 20 ships simultaneously. 50% of the company's products, such as LPG, light sweet crude oil, heavy oil, asphalt, molten sulfur, and lube base oil, are shipped to the domestic and global markets through the facilities. Up to 150,000 tons of ships can use the facilities.

Power generator
The power generator of SK Ulsan Complex is Korea's largest combined heat and power system, providing 1,100 tons of steam and 110,000 kw of power. Ulsan Complex is using 95,000 tons of industrial water and 220,000 kw of power.

Environmental management facilities
In 1968, we began operating the nation's first microbial wastewater treatment system. Since then, we have built Wastewater Treatment Center 1 & 2, purifying rain water to use as industrial water. Also, we began operating a large-scale incinerator, completely processing industrial waste as well as common waste.
